To invigorate through the enrichment of design, style, technique, or technology; to enliven with the ultimate in vim and vigor; to spiralize.
Principals Robert Clancy and Lauren Payne founded Spiral Design Studio in 1989, aspiring for an uninhibited workplace of creative collaboration, one of unlimited personal and professional growth for both employees and clients alike. They envisioned a place of imaginative thought and creative passion – a haven for true inspiration. Fifteen years later, from its creative processes, to its employees, to its clients, to its environment, Spiral Design mirrors the passion of its owners.
Spiral is collaboration.
Endorsing unity within its creative ranks, Spiral disregards occupational boundaries typical of corporate environments. From designers to administrators, the team works collectively with clients to maximize creative opportunities and cultivate an atmosphere of candor. Studio-wide brainstorming sessions initiate projects, producing a variety of concepts and aligning the entire team with the client’s vision. Spiral’s approach provides each employee and client with a voice that counts, and the confidence to take the creative risks necessary for incomparable design.
Spiral is inspiration.
Emphasizing the importance of environmental harmony in the studio, Spiral creates symmetry with natural beauty and cutting-edge technology, all harmoniously tied with Feng Shui. Housed in an historic piano factory, the studio comes alive through the balance of old and new. The factory’s original metal “vault” door welcomes employees and visitors to a world of creative exploration. Although abuzz with the latest high-tech equipment, the studio’s original wood floors, brick walls, and exposed beams bring a natural balance to the studio’s respect for technology. From ceiling to floor, warm colors and textural accents inspire and soothe, as couches and comfy chairs beckon employees from their desks. Candles and plant-life abound, and music plays from the start to the end of the workday. Workstations are designed without walls to provide maximum communication, as well as the continuous flow of creative energy. Through an array of sights, sounds, scents and textures, Spiral’s environment reflects the passion and attitude of its employees – sentiments openly shared by its clients during their studio visits.
Spiral is balance.
Fostering balance, Spiral encourages employees to find fulfillment within both their professional and personal endeavors. While expected to expand their creative and professional educations through company-financed seminars and classes, employees are encouraged to embrace their personal lives with equal vigor. Adhering to their original vision, Robert and Lauren strongly believe that employees must be content in their personal lives in order to be creatively available in their professional lives. For this reason, spouses, significant others and family members are seen as extensions of the Spiral team. They are embraced and welcomed, encouraged to visit the studio and participate in company functions, including the studio’s semi-annual weekend getaways. Personal fulfillment is further supported through the presentation of company-sponsored fitness classes, including yoga, tae kwon do and hapkido. These classes not only provide employees with healthful opportunities for stress-relief, but also reflect the studio’s philosophies and trademark approach.
