Spiral Design Studio Wins Worldwide ADDY®First firm in the Capital Region to win the international advertising award

Spiral Design Studio, LLC, of Albany, NY, took home the gold with a prestigious 2003 Worldwide ADDY® Award. Spiral is the first firm in the Capital Region to win on the international level. The firm received the award for the industry self-promotion division. |

Each year beginning in March, the Spiral Design team begins to brainstorm concepts, themes and packaging for the firm’s December gift. Diverging from the previous year’s Eastern flavor, the 2002 gift was whimsical and a tongue-in-cheek salute to marketing.
The winning “Bona Fide Box of Solutions” included original illustrations, recipe cards and hand-filled herb bottles designed to help the receiver de-stress during the holiday season. Computer-manipulated variations of watercolor, ink and pencil, color marker and multi-media collage designs incorporated all of the team’s talents. For those who needed a sure-fire method of relaxing, chocolate was included in each handcrafted box.

More than 55,000 submissions were received from local American Advertising Federation (AAF) chapters this year. Local winners move to regional competitions, the winners of which are eligible for the worldwide competition. For the 2003 awards, 1,764 entries were judged on the international level. Eighty-seven awards were submitted in the industry self-promotion division. Spiral Design Studio was one of four companies to receive a gold at the Los Angeles, CA, awards event. |
For the past three years the local AAF chapter, of which Spiral Design Studio is a member, has been eligible to participate in the international awards. “For the past three years, we’ve won on the regional level and this is the first time we’ve won a worldwide ADDY®. It’s like getting an Oscar® in advertising,” said Robert Clancy, principal of Spiral Design Studio.
“We’re excited that we won for this project because it reflects who we are. It’s a testament to how we work as a team—how we rely on everyone to make creative contributions to the project—and to have fun,” said Lauren Payne, principal, who founded the firm with Clancy 14 years ago.
